The 16th Annual Pool Checkers & International 10X10 Festival, Roseland, South Bend, Indiana
held Saturday, November 8th & 9th, 2014 at the
Quality Inn, 215 Dixie Way S. in the town of Roseland, South Bend, Indiana
46637
(map) Many of the "big guns" who were here last year did not make it this time, and we received a phone call Friday from the brother of former National Champion Elton Williams that he would not be able to come either, although he had planned on it. This left a field of 12 players, all in one division, with Wayne Lockheart, Toledo, O., with the highest rating. Willie "Bill" Coleman, Gary, Ind., was the Top Amateur of those in the lower half of the ratings.

Fred Shurn,
Maywood,
Ill., won
first place
in the 16th
Annual Pool
Checkers
Festival in
South Bend,
Ind., on
Saturday,
Nov. 8,
2014. The
contest went
right down
to the wire
as Ernest
"Rome" Lee,
Chicago, had
just beaten
Art
"Sonny" Bell
of South
Bend and
could have
overtaken
Shurn with a
win in the
second game,
or tied for
first with a
draw. Bell
prevailed in
the final
contest,
however, and
the final
score was
Shurn 34,
Lee 33.
Lee Pittman,
Chicago, who
led the
standings
for much of
the day, was
third with
29.
